reLease

Can personal trainers rent gym space by the hour?

Yes. Across Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia, Glendale, Burbank and the rest of Los Angeles, gyms and studios let independent trainers bring their own clients by the hour, by the session, or on a monthly trainer pass, with no lease to sign. reLease lists 41 of them; you can request any one, and we’ll ask the owner for you.

How it usually works

You bring your own clients. The owner sets the rate and the hours you can use, often the quiet ones: early mornings, middays, and the hours between classes. You pay for the hour or the session, or once a month for a pass. Today the places on reLease rent 37 by the hour, 2 by the session, and 2 by arrangement.

What it usually costs

In the San Gabriel Valley gyms we’ve spoken with, owners quoted $25 to $30 for a single hour or session. Some also offer a monthly trainer pass. Each gym sets its own rate.

What owners usually ask for

The gyms we’ve spoken with each asked a trainer for the same three things before the first session: proof of liability insurance, a certification, and a photo ID. Have all three ready, and the first conversation goes faster.

Why the listings show no prices yet

Each owner sets their own rate when they claim their listing. Until then, the listing says how the place rents, and a request asks the owner for you.
